I'm back! Normandy photos part 1

Well I'm finally back from my amazing vacation! I can't believe how wonderful the trip was and that I was gone for two whole weeks! Thank you so much for your patience with me while I try to catch up on email from while I was away.

I obviously didn't get a chance to write up a blog post while I was on the road which means I have hundreds, no, thousands of photos to sort through now that I'm home. I've decided to split them up into chunks of a couple days at a time and only show you some of my favorites. The first part of our trip was spent in Normandy with Ben's parents who very generously hosted us all (Ben and I plus his siblings and significant others) in a quaint farmhouse in the Pays d'Auge. These are photos from the first couple of days...

Our first stop was Mont St. Michel...

During the low tide pilgrims make the long walk across the flats to the mountain... it was pretty amazing that there were people doing this while we were there, given that it was absolutely freezing out and they were wading barefoot!

On our second day in Normandy we went on an amazing tour of all of the important D-day locations. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and even took us on a side trip to Bayeux to see the Bayeux tapestry. While we were there we stopped by the town's Notre Dame cathedral.

The next stop on our tour was the American cemetery which was incredibly moving and emotional. These next photos seemed quite fitting for veteran's day.

One of the last stops on our tour was the site of some of the German bunkers at one of the beaches. The sun was setting as we were visiting and the lighting and clouds were just incredible... perfect conditions for taking photos.
